Recent Form
The Reds will be looking to get back to winning ways and push their way back to the top of the log after the slip to 3rd position following a thumping 3-0 defeat to the Gunners; and City took no chances in retaining top spot with a sweeping victory over Newcastle. United lost the top spot and 3 points heading to the International break. It will be a difficult task at Goodison Park as we have managed just one win in the last seven outings and no goal in 3 outings.
Before the disappointing visit at the Emirates Stadium earlier this month, Manchester United had been in concrete form in September with somewhat exception to the Champions League to PSV Eindhoven (a game which we demonstrated total domination but the goals didn't come). We had a good run of wins that propelled the team to the top of the table. Goodison Park's Everton sit in 7th place in the league table and are unbeaten since the loss to Manchester City on August 23rd. Their recent victory against defending champions Chelsea underlines how difficult a place Goodison Park is to visit.
Squad Update
Luke Shaw, will be an absentee on Saturday due to his long-term injury. Also, some of the reds that were on international duty: Bastian Schweinsteiger, Michael Carrick, Wayne Rooney and Paddy McNair picked up slight knocks and are doubts for the game on Saturday.
Roberto Martinez expects John Stones to be ready for the clash after missing Everton's last couple of games. Cleverley, Besic, Baines, Hibbert and Pienaar remain unavailable.
*More squad updates would be given by the managers in their post-match conferences.
Possible Expectations
This game marks the start of a stern and important week for Manchester United as Louis van Gaal's men will have to travel to Russia for the UEFA Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow on Wednesday. 4 days later, Manchester United welcome Manchester City to Old Trafford for the first Manchester Derby of the season. Victory at Goodison Park would be the most appropriate stage to get a testing eight days for United underway.
